Shaders don't really care about what version of the game you're running since the code isn't connected at all to the game itself. However, they do care about what mod is loading them. ![]() Recent shaders require Optifine since they use features only Optifine provide, such as #include or new variables. However, some older shaders like SEUS 11.0 and below don't use these features, so will work with either Optifine or Karyonix's shaders mod. If you're playing 1.7.10 or above, just get Optifine, you can find preview builds here that go as far back as 1.7.10 and support all the latest features shaders use. For 1.6.4 and below, use Karyonix's shaders mod found here. Again, though, Karyonix's mod will only work for some older packs. However, the mod does care about Minecraft versions. You cannot use 1.7.10 Optifine on 1.11.2 Minecraft (but to clarify, you can use a 1.7.10 shader pack on 1.11.2 Optifine, on 1.11.2 Minecraft just fine). Similarly, you'll only be able to join servers with the correct Minecraft and mod version, with some exceptions (all 1.8 versions are compatible with any 1.8 server). ![]()
